We watched the world cup final in Pete and Patrick's
bedroom. Brazil took Germany -- I think it was 2-0.

it had a special name.

It was a hot day, and I bought a cup of shaved ice with
Italian syrup on it -- delicious!

the parade and following competition.

Just before sunset, they erected these inflatable lights
on the bridge, where two teams of strongmen, one from
each side of the river, would engage in a kind of "push
of war" using a large railcar designed for just this
purpose.

The sunset over the river was quite pretty, and we had
a much better view of that than we did of the competition.

After our side of the river lost three straight battles
in record time (it would have gone to 3 out of 5 if
we hadn't done so poorly), we went to our favorite pizza
place to celebrate with a late dinner.
